Shivpal slams govt over Shankaracharya row, calls policies ‘wrong’

Kanpur: Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav on Saturday criticised the state govt over the controversy related to the Shankaracharya during the Magh Mela at Sangam in Prayagraj, alleging that the govt policies were wrong and disrespectful.Speaking to reporters in Etawah, Shivpal said that in the entire episode Shankaracharya was insulted and, along with him, “Ganga Maiya was also insulted”. He alleged that the present government did not know how to respect anyone. The SP leader claimed that the state government was only busy projecting false achievements. He further alleged that statements issued by the chief minister and the deputy chief minister in connection with the Shankaracharya controversy were misleading and aimed at confusing the public. Reacting to remarks made by UP ministers, Shivpal Yadav took a dig—without naming anyone—at a statement given by minister Anil Rajbhar regarding Omprakash Rajbhar. He said that from top to bottom there were people in the govt who were using such language. On the issue of postponement of panchayat elections, the SP leader said that elections should be held on time. He termed any delay an insult to democracy and said the public would never tolerate it. Yadav also claimed that SP would form the govt in UP in 2027, asserting that people were distressed by the BJP govt policies and were looking for a change.
