PUNE: A grand memorial to keep alive the memories and vision of late deputy CM Ajit Pawar is being planned on Vidya Pratishthan’s campus in Baramati, his hometown. His uncle and political mentor Sharad Pawar has taken the initiative for the plan. After Ajit Pawar’s tragic death in a plane crash on Jan 28, his funeral was performed on the campus of Vidya Pratishthan. On Sunday, Sharad Pawar, along with his wife, Pratibha, visited the campus, where he held a brief discussion with some trustees of the pratishthan about the memorial for his late nephew.Confirming the discussion with Sharad Pawar, Kiran Gujar, a member of Vidya Pratishthan, told TOI, “Pawar Saheb was heading to Mumbai. On the way, he and his wife called us to the campus where he discussed the memorial for Ajitdada. He told us to start working on the plan, which he would discuss with us again once the mourning period is over.”Vidya Pratishthan, an educational trust, is managed by the Pawars, with Sharad Pawar as the president and Ajit Pawar among the trustees. According to the trust’s members, they will consult architects before finalising the design for the memorial.“Ajitdada was keen on building design. He took personal interest in any project, and he always insisted that every building should have a different look. Considering his love for architecture, we feel that his memorial should be a big one as well as unique in terms of design,” Gujar said. The next steps are expected after the mourning period is over.
