Kolkata: Union home minister Amit Shah may be present at the launch of BJP’s rath yatra at Raidighi in South 24 Parganas on March 1. Sources in Bengal BJP said they were in touch with Shah’s office about the same. They added that Shah had chosen South 24 Paraganas because BJP has so far not made any headway in the region. In the 2021 assembly elections, Trinamool won 30 of the 31 seats and the remainder went to ISF.“We are focusing on areas where the organisation is relatively weak,” said a Bengal BJP senior, adding, “In Raidighi, the party gained 30% more votes in the 2021 polls from 2016.”BJP will be carrying out a rath yatra starting in nine places, each launched by a BJP senior — including Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Shivraj Chouhan, Devendra Fadnavis, Nitin Nabin and Smriti Irani. The party will hold 64 large public rallies and 300 smaller ones to culminate at Brigade Parade Grounds where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the gathering.
