SGST revenue up 11% in Jan

Ahmedabad: Gujarat recorded an 11.3% year-on-year rise in goods and services tax (GST) collections in Jan this year, posting a significantly higher growth than the national figure of 6.2% during the same period.According to official data, the state earned Rs 7,742 crore from GST last month, compared with Rs 6,955 crore in Jan 2025. In addition to GST, the state collected Rs 2,817 crore from value added tax (VAT), Rs 976 crore from electricity duty, and Rs 22 crore from business tax during the month.Together, revenue from GST, VAT, electricity duty, and business tax stood at Rs 11,557 crore in Jan 2026.The department also reported a sharp rise in enforcement-led revenues. Collections from exploration activities stood at Rs 26.8 crore last month, registering growth of 104.64% over Rs 13.13 crore collected in the same month last year. tnn
