SGPGI to push AI-tech for next phase of growth

Lucknow: Experts on Friday underlined the need for a strong artificial intelligence push to make SGPGIMS future-ready, safe and patient-centric. The call came during a symposium titled ‘Making clinical AI work: Aligning technology, practice and policy’, organised to mark the 5th foundation day of the department of hepatology at SGPGIMS. The event was held at the telemedicine auditorium in collaboration with ICMR-NIRDHDS and Miimansa AI.Opening the symposium, Prof Amit Goel of the department of hepatology and Prof RK Singh of the department of telemedicine highlighted the growing role of digital health and AI in transforming clinical care. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Nigam H Shah, professor of medicine and biomedical data science at Stanford University School of Medicine and chief data scientist at Stanford Health Care.

The inaugural session was attended by Prof RK Dhiman, Dr Mona Duggal, Dr Harish Karnick and Dr Vineet Kansal. Emphasising the relevance of AI in healthcare delivery, Prof Dhiman encouraged clinicians and institutions to actively adopt and integrate AI-driven solutions.Officials said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was in process between SGPGIMS, ICMR, IIT Kanpur and IET Lucknow to address one of healthcare’s most pressing challenges — how to translate advances in AI into safe, effective and equitable clinical practice. Experts from Miimansa AI conducted a session titled ‘AI 101 for clinicians’ and demonstrated responsible deployment of clinical AI tools through BridgeCloud.
