Amritsar: The executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Thursday announced to hold meetings with leading AI companies to prevent creation and uploading of misleading and sacrilegious AI content on social media. After chairing a meeting of the committee, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami told the media that the SGPC would create its own comprehensive databank on Sikh principles, history, and authentic sources to ensure accurate information reached the global Sikh community.
He said the SGPC already began engaging with leading AI companies, and a dedicated mass-reporting software to counter misinformation was set to be launched shortly. Large-scale awareness programmes would be rolled out to equip the public with verified knowledge and safeguard Sikh heritage in the digital era, he said, adding that the SGPC was working proactively to curb the misuse of modern technology for activities targeting religions. He reiterated that the recent rejection of the release plea of Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, accused of the 1993 attack on then Youth Congress chief M S Bitta in New Delhi in which nine persons were killed, by the Sentence Review Board of the BJP govt in Delhi was unfortunate. He said the “AAP govt took this approach earlier, and the BJP govt was now walking on the same anti-Sikh path”. He also questioned the “silence” of Sikh leaders within the BJP on this issue, saying it has exposed their double standards. MSID:: 128560535 413 |
