SGPC condemns desecration at gurdwara in Jalandhar village

Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Wednesday condemned the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib in Mahal village, Jalandhar, where parts of the holy scripture were found torn.In a statement, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami described the incident as a “grave failure of law and order” and a “dereliction of responsibility” by Punjab govt.Dhami termed the act a direct attack on Sikh sentiments and warned that it appeared to be part of a larger conspiracy, noting that CCTV cameras installed in the gurdwara were found to be non-functional. He demanded that those directly responsible, as well as any forces operating behind the scenes, be identified and punished sternly. Dhami said if the govt failed to respond in accordance with Sikh sentiments, the community might be compelled to launch a struggle. The SGPC deputed officials from Gurdwara Sri Mau Sahib and its Dharam Prachar Committee, under SGPC member Ranjit Singh Kahlon, to investigate and take action at every level, he said. Dhami stressed that gurdwara management committees must maintain strict vigilance, ensure the deployment of sewadars at all times, and install functional CCTV cameras wherever necessary to prevent such incidents in the future.
