Seven held for circulation of child sexual abuse material

Guwahati: Seven people have been arrested from different parts of Assam for allegedly creating and circulating child pornography content.All the arrests were made in the last 24 hours. The Crime Investigation Department (CID), Assam, along with district police units, conducted a statewide operation against the creation and circulation of child sexual exploitative and abuse material (CSEAM).

The operation was carried out across five districts based on inputs received by the Cyber Tipline. FIRs have been registered under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act.“The arrested persons have been identified as Dulu Boruah, Raju Dutta, Priyam Handique from Golaghat district, Hemanta Kalita, from Kamrup Metropolitan district, Minhaz Khan from Kamrup district, Aychan Ali Ahmed from Barpeta district, and Deluwar Husaain from Bajali district,” a press statement from Assam Police read.According to the statement, mobile phones and other digital devices used in the commission of the offences have been seized and sent for forensic examination. Live forensic support was provided by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the ministry of home affairs, enabling swift identification and apprehension of the suspects.“Further investigation is underway to unearth the nexus involved in creation and circulation of CSEAM and other unlawful contents,” the statement read.
