New Delhi: Planned movements and security-related restrictions across central Delhi between noon and evening on Tuesday disrupted traffic in many areas, forcing commuters to take long detours via Mathura Road. Some remained stranded near Janpath for extended periods.Authorities said restrictions were imposed on a need basis to regulate traffic and ensure security. Several key stretches were restricted in phases between 12pm and 5pm, and again from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
During the first phase, halting and parking were prohibited on stretches, including Janpath Road, Windsor Place roundabout, ITO W-Point, Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg and India Gate C-Hexagon. Vehicles found parked in violation were towed. In the evening, similar restrictions were enforced on Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, MLNP, Janpath Road and Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Commuters were advised to avoid sensitive corridors such as Raisina Road, Rafi Marg and Tolstoy Marg.A traffic police officer said advisories were issued online and 700-800 personnel were deployed in central Delhi. “The restrictions were necessitated by multiple factors, including dignitary movements at various locations during the day and an evening rehearsal for the Beating Retreat ceremony.” TNN
