Ahmedabad: Following the controversy at Gujarat University over large number of empty liquor bottles found on the university hostel premises, the administration has order an inquiry and announced stricter security measures. The issue resurfaced recently when more than 10 empty liquor bottles were found on the terrace of hostel Block D. Soon after, NSUI activists claimed that over 100 empty bottles were discovered behind the hostel building, triggering outrage on the campus.
An inquiry committee constituted by the university concluded that it was unlikely that hostel students were responsible, citing their circumstances and the lack of direct evidence. The committee suggested that outsiders may have dumped the bottles, as the rear side of the hostel was open and poorly monitored.Based on the report, the university announced measures including a high boundary wall, additional CCTV cameras, entry checks, a separate parking zone, and replacement of the existing security agency to strengthen campus safety.
