Amritsar: Security agencies in Amritsar have stepped up measures at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport following the sighting of a drone in the vicinity. A high-level meeting was convened with senior representatives from various security agencies, including the Indian Air Force, to assess the potential threat and review existing safety protocols. Airport director Bhupender Singh said the authorities took all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of airport operations. “We reviewed our surveillance and response measures and strengthened monitoring around the airport premises,” he added.Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar (Rural), Suhail Qasim Mir, informed that an FIR was registered regarding the incident. He said that police teams are actively investigating the matter to determine the origin of the drone and its purpose. “All leads are being followed, and the involvement of local or foreign actors is being examined carefully,” Mir said. The drone in question was reportedly spotted on Thursday, after which airspace over the airport was temporarily closed for approximately 1 hour, and a few flights were diverted as a precautionary measure.
