Hyderabad: The Secunderabad division of South Central Railway (SCR) is conducting a comprehensive fire safety and anti-smoking drive until February 8. The initiative aims to prevent the carriage of flammable items and further enhance passenger safety across trains and railway premises.So far, during the ongoing fire safety drive, targeted inspections have been carried out across 43 luggage and brake van coaches, 25 railway yards, washing lines, pit lines (coach maintenance facilities) and 17 railway stations.Authorities have registered two cases against individuals for tobacco-related fire safety violations. Special emphasis is being placed on preventing the unauthorised carriage of flammable and explosive materials, gas cylinders, and flammable cans.Checks are also being conducted to keep coach corridors, doorways, and pantry passages clear, and to strictly enforce the ban on flame-based cooking and smoking. Electrical safety is ensured by eliminating loose wires, bypassed fuses, and panel gaps.Fire and smoke detection systems in coaches, pantry cars, and power cars are being tested for proper functioning, while ensuring that sensors are clear and fire safety and ‘no smoking’ signage is displayed.
