Ahmedabad: Two door-to-door garbage collectors were allegedly attacked with knives and robbed near Fatehwadi canal in the Vejalpur area early Thursday morning. According to a complaint filed with Vejalpur police, complainant Nailesh Bhabhor (26), a native of Dahod who lives in Sarkhej, was on duty with his wife, Sarla, when the incident occurred around 6.45am. The couple works for a private waste management firm operating in the Maktampura ward.Nailesh stated that two unidentified men confronted them near Moyyuddin Masjid between A-One Nagar and Kaswa Park, allegedly questioning why all garbage was not being collected. The verbal altercation escalated when one of the men allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Nailesh on his right shoulder and palm. The accused allegedly robbed him of a silver chain worth Rs 5,000 and a mobile phone at knifepoint. The second assailant allegedly threatened Sarla with dire consequences if the matter was reported.
When supervisor Shehzad Sheikh reached the spot, he too was allegedly attacked and injured. Locals intervened and managed to overpower one suspect before police arrived. He has been identified as Anas Sheikh, a Fatehwadi resident. His alleged accomplice, identified only as Sohil, is absconding. The injured were treated at private hospitals.
