Kanpur: Sub-inspector Amit Maurya, the main accused in the Sachendi gang rape case, remained absconding for the past eight days due to fear of arrest, and the survivor’s family is facing pressure to withdraw the case.On Monday, the survivor’s brother received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number in which he was threatened and pressured to withdraw the case, with the caller claiming the sub-inspector was an honest person. A message was also sent to the victim’s brother from a profile named Chhotu Kushwaha that stated that they should not play with the sub-inspector’s job. “He is not wrong. We know him, he is very decent.” The message also said the sub-inspector had already got bail and that no one would help the victim’s family for the lifetime. The threat warned that if they did not comply, their life would be made such that they would not even have tears left in their eyes.The Kanpur Commissionerate issued a press note on its official handle `X’ stating that a case had come to light in the Sachendi police station area where the victim’s brother was threatened via a WhatsApp call from an unknown person through a mobile number. It further said that a case was registered at the Sachendi police station against the caller of the concerned WhatsApp mobile number and legal action was being taken as per rules.The Commissionerate said the caller, Amit Trivedi, son of Divakar Lal Trivedi, resident of Parsendi, police station Talgaon, Sitapur, aged 30 years, was taken into custody by police and necessary legal action was being taken after interrogation.
