Gorakhpur: Construction of Gorakhpur’s International Cricket Stadium, fourth such facility in UP, is set to gather momentum with release of first instalment of Rs 63.39 crore by state govt on Jan 19. The stadium, coming up at Tal Nandaur along the Gorakhpur–Varanasi highway, is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 392.94 crore and is scheduled for completion by Dec 2027, officials informed. The project has now moved into an active execution phase with earth-filling and levelling work.The main stadium complex will be developed over 45 acres, with an additional 5 acres earmarked for allied facilities. Built according to ICC standards, the two-tier stadium will have a seating capacity of 30,000, with seven main pitches and four practice pitches. Designed as a multi-purpose venue, it will also host large non-sporting events.District magistrate Deepak Meena said the stadium, along with nearby projects like a veterinary college and Kanha gaushala, will boost development in the area. The project will be executed in EPC mode by PWD and will include modern stands, pavilions, parking for 1,500 vehicles, solar panels, energy-efficient systems and world-class broadcast and player facilities.
