Varanasi: A day after serving notices, Rohania police on Sunday forfeited the movable and immovable assets worth Rs 30.52 crore belonging to jailed Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, father of codeine cough syrup syndicate kingpin Shubham Jaiswal. ACP (Rohaniya) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said that eight immovable properties in the district were forfeited and the debit facility in three bank accounts was frozen under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act, 1976 (SAFEMA). The total value of forfeited movable and immovable properties was Rs 30,52,26,944. Sunday’s operation kicked off at Bhola’s Rs 23-crore house in Tulsipur, Bhelupur, where Rohaniya police raided the premises and wrapped up the forfeiture formalities. The property is registered under Bhola and Shaili Traders. Next, the police moved to three plots in Jagdishpur Koilasla — valued at Rs 43,02,540, Rs 57,13,400 and Rs 43,51,182 — followed by a Rs 71-lakh plot in Bharlaai Shivpur. They then seized a Rs 1.15-crore plot in Madauli registered to his wife Sharda Jaiswal, a Rs 1.98-crore residential building in Jagatganj Ramkatora (also in her name), and a Rs 1.05-crore home in Habibpura Lallapura held jointly by his wife and daughter, completing the forfeiture process on all properties.ACP Sharma said that the legal process to freeze the debit facility in three accounts in Indian Bank, comprising Rs 58,21,486, Rs 1,38,336.99, and Rs 60,00,000, was also completed. Prasad is currently lodged in Sonbhadra jail, and the notice for all the action that took place on Sunday had been served to him there by Varanasi police. Before the action by Rohaniya police, a team of Sonbhadra police had reached Varanasi on Friday and attached Bhola’s properties of over Rs 28 crore. Many properties in the actions of Varanasi and Sonbhadra police are common. Shubham is still absconding, and a red corner notice has been issued against him.Shubham’s gang faces several cases, and Sunday’s action stemmed from the investigation into the codeine cough-syrup case at Rohania police station. A massive seizure of Fensedyl linked the supply to Abbott Company and its proprietor, Prasad (owner of Shaili Traders), with company records providing solid evidence. ACP Sharma confirmed that the probe showed these properties were purchased with illicit earnings.
