Lucknow: The govt allocated Rs 75 crore in the state Budget to roll out the ambitious ‘One District, One Cuisine’ scheme, aimed at promoting the state’s diverse culinary heritage while boosting local livelihoods and tourism.The initiative seeks to identify and brand a signature dish from each district, support traditional cooks and food entrepreneurs, and develop clusters around locally popular cuisines. Officials in the MSME department said that the scheme would help standardise quality, improve packaging and marketing, and create opportunities for small vendors, self-help groups, and home-grown food businesses.

The move is expected to complement the state’s growing focus on cultural and spiritual tourism by offering visitors a distinct gastronomic experience in every district. By integrating food trails with tourism circuits, the govt hopes to generate employment and strengthen district-level economies while preserving Uttar Pradesh’s rich and varied food traditions.The scheme was launched by Union home minister Amit Shah on UP Diwas. An exhibition of popular cuisines from various districts of the state was also put up on the occasion. MSME outlay up by 19%Overall, UP raised MSME outlay by 19% while allocating Rs 3,822 crore across various schemes. Experts said that the aim was to signal a strong push for small businesses and job creation.A key proposal is the launch of the ‘Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Employment and Industrial Zone’, with Rs 575 crore earmarked to develop industrial clusters and boost local employment.To promote youth-led enterprises, Rs 1,000 crore has been proposed under the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan’, with a target of setting up one lakh micro-enterprises annually. Additionally, Rs 225 crore has been allocated for the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarojgar Yojana’ to encourage self-employment among young people.Officials said the measures would provide fresh momentum to grassroots industries and further expand the state’s industrial base.
