Rs 5,000-reward theft accused nabbed after 1km bike chase in Sohna

Gurgaon: A 23-year-old man carrying a Rs 5,000 reward on his head and allegedly involved in over three dozen theft cases was arrested by the crime branch, Sohna, after a brief motorcycle chase last week.The accused, Shahrukh, currently residing in Sohna, was intercepted around 9pm on Feb 7 while riding a motorcycle without a number plate near Sohna Ghati. When signalled to stop, he allegedly sped away. After a chase of nearly one kilometre, he lost balance and fell, following which he was overpowered by the police team. During a search, officers recovered a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from his possession. A case under the Arms Act was registered at City Sohna police station. As he sustained a leg injury in the fall, he was admitted to the govt hospital in Sector 10 and was formally arrested after being discharged on Feb 15. Police said Shahrukh was conducting recce in the area for a potential theft. Investigators claim he typically surveyed target shops two to three times during the day while working as an e-rickshaw driver. He allegedly operated alone but handed over stolen goods to a receiver from a nearby area, who is being traced.He is accused of targeting shops in Bhondsi, Badshapur and Sohna by climbing rooftops, cutting through roofs, stealing cash and valuables, and removing DVRs to destroy CCTV evidence. Police suspect the seized motorcycle is stolen as its chassis number was found erased. Further probe is underway.
