Silchar: Cachar police have seized heroin valued at around Rs 2 crore and arresting a suspected trafficker in Sonai.Acting on specific inputs, a police team conducted a raid at Kachudaram under Sonai police station on Monday evening and recovered 365g of heroin, concealed in 30 soap cases, from the house of one Anwar Hussain. Hussain was taken into custody on the spot.Police said the contraband was carefully packed to evade detection, indicating a well-planned trafficking operation. Preliminary assessment suggests the seized heroin would fetch around Rs 2 crore in the illegal market.Additional SP (Cachar) Subrata Sen said the arrested accused is being interrogated to trace forward and backward linkages of the drug network. “We are probing whether others are involved in the racket. Further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses,” he said.Sen added that the district police will continue their crackdown on drug trafficking and warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in the narcotics trade.A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway.
