Rs 1 crore looted from retired principal’s house in Madhubani

Madhubani: Robbers looted cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs1 crore from the home of Dayakant Jha, retired principal of Gajhara Sanskrit College, in Gajhara village under Ladania police station area early on Friday morning.Around two dozen armed and masked criminals reportedly scaled the rear wall of the courtyard to enter the house. They first smashed the CCTV cameras to disable surveillance. The intruders then assaulted some family members and threatened them.

The robbers spent over an hour ransacking the house and looted cash, jewellery and valuables worth about Rs1 crore. They also searched college documents and Rs25 lakh of the principal’s pension fund, even mentioning names of some local villagers during the crime.After the incident was reported to the police, Madhubani SP Yogendra Kumar and Jaynagar DSP Raghav Dayal reached the spot for inspection. A dog squad was deployed to track the perpetrators, but no immediate success was achieved. A local resident, Suryanath Jha, was taken into custody for questioning.The SP said a team led by the DSP has been formed to investigate the robbery. Efforts are underway to examine CCTV footage of nearby houses. He said some criminals have been identified. A night patrol team from Ladania had pursued the suspects, but they escaped due to the proximity to the Nepal border and dense fog.The SP added that the gang appears to be an active group based in Nepal.
