RPF cop kneels on youth’s neck at railway station in Tamil Nadu, probe ordered

CHENNAI: A video of a Railway Protection Force constable pinning down a youth and kneeling on his neck at Tiruvottiyur railway station drew widespread condemnation on social media.The incident occurred on Feb 11, when a youth, who was drunk, was travelling without a ticket in a first-class compartment, police said. He boarded a train from Chennai Central to Gummidipoondi.

When police questioned him, he became unruly. When the train arrived at Tiruvottiyur, a train ticket examiner (TTE) caught him and handed him over to RPF personnel.RPF personnel then pushed him onto the platform. A video that went viral showed a constable kneeling on the man’s neck for some time before sitting on his chest and slapping his face repeatedly. Following this, RPF officials questioned the policeman, whose identity was withheld, for manhandling the youth. An internal inquiry was ordered to probe the matter. RPF sources said departmental action will be initiated against the policeman based on the inquiry report.
