Boy discharged after successful robotic surgery

Lucknow: Robotic surgery is now also available in the paediatric surgery department of KGMU. The department’s first case was a seven-year-old boy from Unnao who underwent robotic-assisted surgery on Feb 16. He recovered fast and was discharged on Monday. The child was admitted on Feb 13 for surgical treatment after doctors diagnosed him with a bilateral inguinal hernia. He had swelling in both testicles for the past eight months.

Doctors carried out the robotic-assisted surgery, repairing hernias on both sides in a single procedure. The procedure was successful, and the child was able to walk the next day.Prof JD Rawat, head paediatric surgery, informed that the robotic surgery facility will make surgery more efficient and decrease recovery time.The robotic surgery facility in KGMU is already available in the general surgery and surgical gasteroentrology departments.KGMU vice-chancellor Soniya Nityananda said robotic surgery would help expand advanced surgical care for children.
