Lucknow: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of eminent Hindi litterateur and Padma Bhushan awardee Bhagwati Charan Varma, his grandson, author and poet Chandra Shekhar Varma, submitted a proposal to defence minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh, requesting that Badshah Nagar railway station in Lucknow be renamed ‘Bhagwati Charan Varma Railway Station’.The proposal was presented to Singh by Chandra Shekhar Varma in the presence of CA Pawan Dhawan. Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak was also present.The proposal highlighted that Bhagwati Charan Varma was one of the eminent figures of Hindi literature who made significant contributions not only to literature but also to public life and India’s cultural consciousness. He was the writer of ‘Chitralekha’ and several other novels, story collections and plays. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Akademi Award and Hindi Sansthan Award. He also served as a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha.Chandra Shekhar Varma said that naming a prominent public place after Bhagwati Charan Varma would not merely honour a distinguished litterateur, but would also be a lasting recognition of Lucknow’s rich literary and cultural heritage.
