Lucknow: BSP chief Mayawati paid tributes to Sant Guru Ravidas on his birth anniversary on Sunday.She said that his humanitarian message holds immense significance in today’s environment plagued by narrow-mindedness and hatred. On the occasion, she highlighted the work done by her govt in UP to uphold the legacy of the social reformer and thinker. The BSP govt created a new Sant Ravidas district while preserving the status of Bhadohi as the district headquarters, she said, adding that this was changed by the Samajwadi Party govt due to its casteist mindset and political hatred. “The present BJP govt has not restored its name till now, which is very sad and which proves that the thinking of these parties is equally hateful and casteist,” she said. The BSP govt’s efforts included the establishment of Sant Ravidas Park and Ghat in Varanasi, the birthplace of Sant Ravidas, the construction of Sant Guru Ravidas Government College in Faizabad, the installation of his statue in Varanasi, and the establishment of the Sant Ravidas Samman award, besides many others.
