Aizawl: The state-level ex-servicemen rally at Lammual Ground in Aizawl on Saturday brought together veterans, families, and officials in a celebration of courage, discipline, and sacrifice. The event featured medical and welfare initiatives, cultural interactions, and tributes to the service of Mizoram’s ex-servicemen.Mizoram governor Gen Vijay Kumar Singh, accompanied by First Lady Bharti Singh, attended the rally, joining state home minister K Sapdanga and senior military officials in honouring the veterans. Addressing the gathering, the governor said Mizoram’s ex-servicemen stand out across the country as some of the most well-dressed and smartest. “This is an epitome of how an ex-serviceman should conduct himself,” he added.Highlighting Mizoram’s proud tradition of peace, harmony, and mutual respect between civilians and uniformed personnel, he described the rally as a reflection of trust, cooperation, and goodwill between the public and armed forces.He said ex-servicemen remain living embodiments of selfless service and sacrifice, recalling their long periods of duty away from families in some of India’s most challenging terrains to safeguard national security.The governor expressed appreciation for the rally’s arrangements, particularly the dedicated medical camp for ex-servicemen and their families, and the grievance redressal cell addressing pensions, medical facilities, welfare schemes, and resettlement issues. He announced plans to organise larger and more comprehensive medical camps in the near future.Reaffirming the Mizoram govt’s commitment to veterans’ welfare, Singh emphasised that in the true spirit of Tlawmngaihna — the Mizo value of selfless service and concern for others — ex-servicemen must always be treated with dignity, care, and respect.Home minister K Sapdanga described the rally as a magnificent tribute to ex-servicemen who sacrificed for the nation, instilling pride and hope across the country. He paid homage to those who served in conflict zones and difficult terrains, always placing duty above personal considerations. He urged veterans to continue setting exemplary standards in civilian life and encouraged youth to draw inspiration from them to become responsible citizens.The governor also visited various stalls at the venue and interacted warmly with the ex-servicemen present.
