Ahmedabad: A 25-year-old man from Rajkot allegedly raped a 21-year-old woman repeatedly over several months in the city, after luring her with promises of marriage. The woman, a resident of Surendranagar who was living at a paying guest accommodation in the city while studying for a course, filed a complaint with the Navrangpura police. The woman told police that the man, who was from Rajkot, was known to her family. “He began calling me in May. Initially, he would discuss studies, but then he proposed a relationship. He said he loved me and wanted to marry me. After he called repeatedly, I agreed,” she stated in her complaint. “A couple of months later, the man came to Ahmedabad on my birthday and spoke about marrying me. He began coming to the city frequently after that. He took me to a hotel near Ashram Road and had physical relations with me thrice,” alleged the complainant, who returned to her hometown after her course ended.“We continued to talk over video calls till I learnt that he had got engaged to a woman from his hometown. When I confronted him, he said he was breaking off our engagement. I informed my parents and uncle about before approaching the police,” she stated in the complaint. She sought a formal investigation into the offences that allegedly took place between May 2025 and Jan 19, 2026. A complaint has been registered under BNS Section 69, pertaining to sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means.
