Raj health dept halts new doc postings in high-demand dists; prioritises underserved regions

Jaipur: The health department will not make fresh postings of doctors in high-demand districts such as Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Jaipur as it shifts focus to tribal, desert, hilly and border areas to ensure a fair distribution of medical staff across the state. Postings will be made through the RajHealth portal, which will be used to map doctor availability at every health institution and allocate staff strictly based on need. Official figures show 980 doctors are currently awaiting posting at the directorate, and their deployment will be prioritised for underserved regions and critical facilities. The department also decided to take strict action against doctors who have not joined after transfer. Immediate charge-sheets will be served on those who fail to comply with joining orders within the stipulated time. Officials will identify institutions with excess staffing, including cases where two doctors are placed against the same post, and reshuffle surplus staff to fill gaps elsewhere. Vacant posts in medical institutions will be strengthened through the posting of surplus and APO doctors, with a focus on improving services in remote and high-need districts. Specialist services will be reinforced on priority in First Referral Units and trauma centres to make them fully functional. Health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar issued the directions during a meeting at the Health Directorate Monday. He said postings will be made on top priority in trauma centres, district hospitals and community health centres across all districts. He also said district authorities have been directed to assess OPD and IPD patient load and send urgent, requirement-based demand for specialist doctors within the next 24 hours so postings can be issued quickly where the need is most critical. The minister reiterated that compliance with transfer orders must be ensured and disciplinary action taken against any violations.
