Guwahati: The Jan 31 deadline for seat sharing given to Congress by Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal’s ended on Saturday. Raijor Dal has called an emergency meeting here on Sunday to take a final decision on alliance with Congress, Akhil said.He added that there was a lot of pressure on him, and ticket aspirants were running out of patience following the delay in finalising the seat-sharing deal by Congress.
On the last day of applying for candidature for Raijor Dal, Akhil applied on Saturday for Sivasagar seat in upper Assam. “It is final that I am going to contest the upcoming assembly election from Sivasagar,” he told the media on Saturday.Even as Congress has its own aspirants from Sivasagar, Akhil said he is a proud MLA from Sivasagar. “I will contest from Sivasagar and win the seat,” he added.“On Feb 1, in our central headquarters, we called an emergency executive meeting to take a final decision on an alliance with Congress and other parties. We did not receive the expected response, importance, and respect from Congress thus far,” Akhil said.Raijor Dal sources said the party is eyeing to contest in 15 out of 126 seats.Speaking to media persons in Sivasagar, the leader of the opposition and a senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia advocated unity among opposition parties and insisted on keeping patience before taking a decision on an alliance.
