Prayagraj: In recognition of its contribution to Ganga conservation, Pratapgarh-based Vasundhara Sanstha was invited as a special guest to the Republic Day 2026 celebrations in New Delhi under the Namami Gange Mission.Secretary of the organisation and Ganga Prahari Shikha Singh, who will attend the Republic Day event on behalf of the organisation, said: “For over 2 decades, Vasundhara Sanstha has been working in the fields of environmental protection and ensured the cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of Ganga. The organisation was actively involved in Ganga cleanliness drives, removal of ritual remains from riverbanks, water conservation initiatives, rainwater harvesting, village-level awareness campaigns, and encouraging women’s participation, thereby turning Ganga service into a people’s movement since 2007.” Their sustained efforts have earned several state-level and departmental honours. During the Ganga Samman Samaroh held on Dec 8, 2023, Shikha Singh was honoured with a citation and cash award by Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh, making Vasundhara the only organisation from the state to receive the distinction at the event. The invitation to attend the Republic Day in 2026 came at the call of the govt of India, acknowledging Vasundhara Sanstha’s exemplary work under the Namami Gange scheme. Expressing her gratitude, Shikha Singh said: “Maa Ganga is not merely a river but a living culture and protecting her is a moral and social responsibility of every citizen.” She added that the honour belongs to society at large, volunteers, and all Ganga devotees who supported the mission.
