Mumbai: Additional chief secretary Manisha Mhaiskar will be the new home secretary. She replaces Iqbal Chahal, who retires on Saturday. She is a 1992 batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre. She has earlier been posted as additional municipal commissioner, BMC, and has also been in charge of the protocol department. She had once courted controversy by posting a note on her social media account that she and other IAS trainee officers had celebrated in Mussoorie after Babri Masjid was demolished. Mhaiskar was in charge of the public works department. Additional chief secretary Milind Mhaiskar has been transferred to it. He will hold the additional charge of revenue and forest departments.
