Ludhiana: In a state-level tribute at Bhaini Sahib on Friday, Punjab Ministers Hardeep Singh Mundian and Tarunpreet Singh Sond lauded the founder of the Namdhari Sect, Satguru Ram Singh, as a pioneer of India’s independence movement. Speaking at the 210th Parkash Purb (birth anniversary), the ministers emphasised that the “Kuka Movement” had established the blueprint for non-violent resistance decades before it became a cornerstone of the national freedom struggle. They callled it the weapon of non-cooperation. The ministers highlighted how Satguru Ram Singh effectively mobilized the masses against British rule by introducing a systemic boycott of colonial services and goods.‘Precursor to Gandhi’The ministers noted that the non-cooperation ideals propagated by the Satguru had been later adopted and scaled by eminent leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. Under the leadershipof Satguru Ram Singhy, followers (Kukas) boycotted British education, laws, and clothing, choosing instead to strengthen local self-reliance.Social Transformation and LegacyBeyond political resistance, the Satguru was remembered for his rigorous campaign against social evils. His philosophy focused on working toward the eradication of caste-based discrimination and social prejudices. The ministers commended the Namdhari sect for its historical and continued support of agrarian development and athletic excellence.“A real tribute to Satguru Ram Singh Ji is to follow the path shown by him,” the ministers stated. “We call upon the people to emulate his ideology to bring meaningful transformation to our modern society.” Satguru Uday Singh, the current head of the Namdhari sect, formally honoured ministers Mundian and Sond during the congregation.The Punjab govt announced “fulsome support” for the Namdhari community’s ongoing social and educational initiatives. The ministers remarked that the sacrifices of the Kuka martyrs remain a permanent source of inspiration for national development.
