Mohali: In a major crackdown on electricity bill defaulters, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) disconnected 1,014 power connections linked to outstanding dues worth Rs 3.7 crore. The action was carried out as part of a recovery drive across five divisions — Kharar, Kurali, Samrala, Ropar and Anandpur Sahib. The recovery campaign was conducted under the guidance of R K Mittal, chief engineer (South Zone), and supervised by Mohit Sood, deputy chief engineer, DS Circle Ropar. Officials said the objective was to recover long-pending dues and ensure payment discipline among consumers who repeatedly ignored notices.During the drive, 315 defaulting consumers cleared their outstanding bills, depositing Rs 1.29 crore with the corporation. However, strict enforcement continued against habitual and persistent defaulters, resulting in the snapping of 1,014 electricity connections across the designated divisions.A senior PSPCL officer said the utility has adopted a “zero-tolerance” policy towards consumers who repeatedly fail to clear dues. “Connections of consumers who fail to deposit their outstanding electricity bills despite repeated notices are being cut as per regulations. The drive will continue in the days to come. Defaulters are advised to clear their dues immediately to avoid inconvenience,” the officer said.PSPCL also urged consumers to download its new mobile app, which offers online facilities such as bill payment, consumption tracking and lodging complaints.Meanwhile, officials said the corporation is fully prepared for the upcoming paddy and summer seasons. Maintenance and augmentation of distribution transformers (DTs) have been completed to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to both agricultural and domestic consumers. The corporation reiterated its commitment to financial discipline while maintaining dependable electricity supply across the region.MSID:: 128677924 413 |
