Lucknow: A professor from the Madiaon area was allegedly duped of Rs 46 lakh by two fraudsters who promised to secure her son’s admission to a prominent technology institute in Rajasthan, police said on Thursday.The victim, Kiran Chaubey, lodged an FIR at the cyber crime police station on Aug 22. She alleged that she was approached by individuals posing as representatives of education consultancies and was repeatedly asked to make payments to facilitate the admission process.According to her complaint, she met one of the accused, Anant, on April 22. He allegedly posed as a representative of a consultancy firm, collected her original documents and introduced her to another accused, identified as Dhruv.She alleged that on June 20, a person identified as Tanmay, who was introduced as Anant’s associate, contacted her and demanded Rs 11 lakh to secure admission for her son. She claimed that she handed over the money in Gomti Nagar.When the promised admission did not materialise, the accused allegedly introduced her to two more consultancies. She claimed that she paid another Rs 35 lakh on July 30 as part of the admission process.Chaubey further alleged that Anant and Dhruv later arranged a meeting with a man identified as Virendra, claiming that he was a teacher at the Rajasthan-based institute. However, when she contacted the institute, she discovered that Virendra did not work there.After realising that she had allegedly been cheated, she approached the police.Inspector Alok Rao said an FIR had been registered against Anant and Dhruv and efforts were underway to arrest them.
