Kendrapada: President Droupadi Murmu performed the pind daan ritual for her ancestors at the famous Maa Biraja temple in Jajpur district on Tuesday. She became the first serving President to conduct this sacred ceremony.The President reached the temple at 9.45am and performed the rituals at Nabhigaya, a sacred well within the temple complex. Three temple priests — Satyaranjan Pani, Abinash Pani and Kalyan Pani — guided her through the rites, while the temple’s Mukti Mandap priests offered their blessings.The district authorities took extensive security measures, with SPG teams conducting thorough checks. They also declared a holiday for 48 schools in Jajpur municipal area to manage the crowds.Large crowds lined the route from the helipad to the temple to catch a glimpse of the President during her nearly two-hour visit. The district administration enforced tight security arrangements, with SPG teams carrying out extensive checks and declared a holiday for 48 private schools in Jajpur municipal area. She was presented with a stone image of Lord Buddha, crafted by National Award-winning sculptor, Susanta Kumar Das of Jajpur district.
