Polls likely before Rongali Bihu: Himanta

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said there is “every possibility” that the state assembly elections will be held before Rongali Bihu, with the Election Commission expected to announce the schedule anytime soon.Speaking to the media at Sotai in Jorhat district during a cheque distribution function, Sarma said, “The election dates are announced towards the end of February or early March. Elections in Assam in the recent past were held before Bihu. The state govt also wants elections to be held before Bihu festivities. Considering the past poll dates, we expect that the assembly polls in Assam this year will be held before Bihu,” he said.
