Poll officials take SIR hearings to homes of elderly voters in Bithoor

Kanpur: During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme in the 210-Bithoor Assembly constituency, election officials on Saturday took a humane and proactive step to ensure that elderly voters were not deprived of their democratic rights. At the hearing of notices issued to unmapped voters at the Town Area Bithoor auditorium of the Municipal Council office, it emerged that 76-year-old Shivani Chatterjee was unable to attend the hearing due to her inability to walk. Taking note of her condition, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) Bithoor and Tehsildar Sadar Vinay Dwivedi personally visited her residence and completed the hearing process on the spot by uploading the required forms along with her photograph. In a similar gesture, the election team visited the home of 93-year-old Gopa Mukherjee, whose advanced age prevented her from reaching the hearing centre. Officials completed all formalities at her residence, ensuring that physical limitations did not become a barrier to her inclusion in the voter list. Both senior citizens were appreciated by the election team for their voter awareness and commitment to democratic participation. ERO Bithoor Assembly and SDM Sadar Anubhav Singh said that the aim of the Special Intensive Revision programme was not only to update electoral rolls, but also to ensure that no eligible voter was excluded due to age, illness or disability.
