Pune: The Baner police on Sunday night started the process to register a case of abetment of suicide against a pharmacy store owner from Baner for leading his 20-year-old niece to commit suicide.The girl, a resident of Pali in Rajasthan, was found hanging in a flat owned by her uncle in Baner on Jan 28. At the time, the police had registered an accidental death report.

Senior inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant of the Baner police said, “The deceased woman was working as an attendant in one of the two pharmacy shops owned by her maternal uncle. Her brother claimed that their uncle [store owner] was harassing her mentally and physically. Because of this, the woman committed suicide by hanging herself.”Sawant said, “Her brother approached us on Sunday to lodge the complaint. We took his statement and a process to register a case of abetment to suicide was initiated.”“The complainant informed us that his elder sister also committed suicide by hanging from the same ceiling fan about five years ago. She too was working as an attendant with one of the pharmacy shops in Baner,” Sawant said.“On Jan 28, our team searched the room where the woman was found dead, but they did not find any suicide note,” he said.
