Pune: The Laxminagar police foiled a child marriage attempt after raiding a hall in Yerawada on January 30 evening.Senior inspector Ravindra Kadam of the Laxminagar police said, “The bride was 16-year-old and the groom 19 years old. Neither of them has attained the legal age for marriage. According to the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA), 2006, the bride must attain the age of 18 years, while the groom should be 21 years old.“Police registered a case against the parents of the girl and the bridegroom, other family members, the person who arranged the marriage, the catering service provider and others. “We registered the case against all those present in the hall for not raising the issue or calling the police after coming to know that the bride was a minor,” Kadam said.“Our team rushed to the wedding hall after receiving information about the event and ordered the family members to halt the wedding proceedings. The family members of the bride and the groom told us that they had collectively decided to marry off the girl. They neglected the law in the process,” he said.
