Jaisalmer: Police raided an online casino operating under the guise of a video game centre in Palika Bazaar near the new bus stand in Balotra city Tuesday, seizing 12 machines and account books worth lakhs of rupees, along with other materials.Acting on a tip-off, DSP Anil Purohit and his team conducted the raid on the casino running underground beneath a hair salon. The operators fled the scene before police arrived.
According to police, the seized account book showed that bets worth Rs 2.88 crore had been placed through the casino and in return earned Rs 76.56 lakh through its profitsPolice said that the gambling dens create an illusion of quick money. They said many young people who begin gambling for fun gradually become addicted and keep betting to recover losses which eventually pushes people towards debt and financial crisis.Police have registered a case under the Gambling Act against Govindsingh, Hadmatsingh, and Heeralal and initiated an investigation to trace the absconding operators. The raid continued till late in the night.
