The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a Central Sector Scheme launched by the Government of India to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Key Features of PM-KISAN:
- Financial Assistance: Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive direct income support of ₹6,000 per year. This amount is distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, every four months.
- Eligibility: The scheme is available to all small and marginal farmer families who collectively own cultivable land up to 2 hectares, as per land records of the concerned State/UT.
- Exclusions: Certain categories of beneficiaries are excluded from the scheme, including institutional landholders, farmer families with one or more members belonging to certain categories (like former and present holders of constitutional posts, retired pensioners with a monthly pension of over ₹10,000, and professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc.).
- Implementation: The scheme is implemented by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
- Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): The financial benefits are transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
- Aadhaar Linking: It is mandatory for the beneficiaries to link their Aadhaar number with their bank accounts to receive the benefits.
How to Apply:
Farmers can apply for the PM-KISAN scheme through the official PM-KISAN portal (https://pmkisan.gov.in/). The process involves the following steps:
- Visit the official PM-KISAN website.
- Navigate to the “Farmers Corner” section.
- Click on the “New Farmer Registration” option.
- Fill in the required details such as Aadhaar number, name, and other relevant information.
- Submit the form and wait for verification.
Checking Status:
Farmers can also check the status of their application and payment through the PM-KISAN portal by entering their Aadhaar number, bank account number, or mobile number.
