If pirates have a reputation for thieving and deceiving, Pirate Life Perth’s slew of recent upgrades are all about giving back to the city that’s served them well over the past five years.

In line with the venue’s fifth birthday on March 7, a major refurbishment has just been unveiled that’s intended to be an investment into not just the brewery precinct’s next chapter, but a new era for the city.

Offering a lighter, more cohesive holistic offering, Perth-based hospitality group Sneakers & Jeans say the elevated experience will continue to serve those thirsty for late-night sessions, cold beers, live sport, and solid food.

“We’ve watched how guests use the space over the past five years and really listened to what they love most,” Sneaker & Jeans CEO Andy Freeman said.

“This refurbishment is not about changing who Pirate Life Perth is. It’s about refining the experience, opening the venue up to the city and investing in the next five years.

“We want it to feel more connected, more comfortable and more considered, while keeping that big personality people know us for.”

Loyal patrons may have noticed a new alfresco seating area along Murray Street that now feeds directly into the Main Brew Hall.

While the interior layout boasts refined design touches, including comfortable booth seating, updated signage, new artwork, and various refreshed fittings.

Those in search of a long lunch or relaxed dining experience with full table service will find it at The Pirate Life Bistro, a culinary offering led by Chef Sofie Firman, who was previously Head Chef at Varnish on King.

And sport-lovers can pull up a pew at The Backroom, an energetic, live entertainment space, while Deadbeat’s basement cocktail vibes remain a drawcard.

Sneakers & Jeans operations manager Adi Ruiz said the multi-purpose watering hole catered for many demographics because it’s own identity has always portrayed “multiple personalities”.

“We’ve embraced that in this evolution. Each space now has a clearer identity and purpose, but they still feel connected. It’s a true choose-your-own-adventure venue,” he said.

“You can start with a casual beer at the bar, stay for dinner in The Bistro and head into The Backroom for live sport or a bit of friendly rivalry over arcade games, all without leaving the building.”

In 2026, the brand promises it’s greatest year to date, with new collaborations, an expanded live music program, curated DJ sets, and a menu that evolves with the seasons.

Because with half a decade under the belt, it’s as much about looking forward as it is the journey.

“It’s a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also a signal to keep pushing forward,” Mr Ruiz said.

“We’re proud to be part of a precinct that’s gaining real momentum, and this refurbishment is about reinvesting in our community and the future of hospitality in the CBD.”

Pirate Life Perth’s fifth birthday party will run from 11am until late on March 7, featuring an acoustic performance from The Voice winner Reuben De Melo, a hip hop set courtesy of DJ Stylz Ali with Hyclass, and later, a house and live music set by DJ Steffi featuring COCCO.
