Phone tapping case: Former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar to skip questioning today, cites civic polls commitments

HYDERABAD: In response to the SIT notice issued on Thursday, former CM K Chandrashekar Rao has requested a fresh date for questioning, citing he is pre-occupied with the Feb 11 municipal elections as Jan 30 is the last date for filing nominations. He also sought the examination to be conducted at his farmhouse in Erravelli. KCR assured he would extend full cooperation to the investigators.Former chief minister and BRS president KCR has been served a notice by the SIT probing the phone tapping case to appear before investigators at 3 pm on Jan 30 for questioning.Considering his age, the investigators offered KCR the option to either appear at the Jubilee Hills police station or choose any other location within Hyderabad for questioning. ā€œAs you are above the age of 65 years, and in strict compliance with the provisions of section 160 of CrPC, you are not required to attend the police station compulsorily,ā€ investigation officer K Venkatagiri stated.The notice said the probe so far had found KCR was ā€œacquainted with facts and circumstances relevant to the caseā€, and his examination was therefore ā€œnecessary and required for the purpose of further investigationā€.Businessmen phones tappedThey were charged with illegally intercepting phones of opposition members, businessmen and others during the BRS govt. Barring Prabhakar Rao and Sravan Kumar, the remaining accused were arrested and later released on bail. Among those allegedly kept under illegal surveillance were present CM A Revanth Reddy and his family members, senior BJP member Eatala Rajender, Union minister Bandi Sanjay and Medak MP M Raghunandan Rao, besides several other politicians.To fast-track the probe, state govt constituted a ninemember SIT, headed by Hyderabad police commissioner V C Sajjanar, in the last week of Dec 2025.
