Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which has been conducting a crackdown on illegally run paying guest (PG) accommodations for the past two days, on Thursday sealed 32 such units in the North-West Zone, including facilities in Bodakdev (Premchandnagar) and Chandlodia. As the sealing drive intensified, nearly 100 PG residents and operators marched to the Rajmata Scindia Bhavan, the North-West Zone office, in the night and staged an impromptu protest. They occupied the entrance and lobby area, declaring that if their PGs were sealed without notice, they would have “no option but to sleep at the AMC office”.They claimed that they were left stranded with their belongings and had not been given adequate time to shift. AMC officials maintained that operators had been warned earlier and that non-compliant units would continue to face action.A senior official of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) estate department told TOI that they had asked PG operators to “obtain mandatory permissions and comply with safety and licencing norms.” The raids are expected to continue across other zones as part of the AMC’s ongoing effort to regulate PG sector.
