Pet dog beaten to death, owner attacked; case filed

Kanpur: Police in Auraiya registered a case after a pet dog was allegedly beaten to death with a stick in Rahtoli village under the Ayana police station and the owner was allegedly assaulted when he protested.The case was registered on the complaint of a youth from the village. Rahtoli resident Dharmendra Kumar Gurjar told police in his complaint that on Feb 21, 2026, he went to attend a programme in the village along with his pet dog ‘Romy’. He said that while returning from the programme, Indrabhan Gurjar, son of Mahadev Singh Gurjar, from the same village, allegedly hit the dog on the head with a stick without any provocation.It was alleged that the dog died on the spot.According to Dharmendra, when he protested against the incident, Indrabhan started abusing and assaulting him. He said that he, somehow, escaped and reached the police station to report the matter. The victim demanded strict legal action against the accused. Ayana police station in-charge Jayprakash Pal confirmed that a case was registered based on the complaint.
