Mumbai: Several pockets of western suburbs were hit by a power outage from 7 pm on Tuesday, which lasted for nearly 1.5 to 2 hours, with Adani Electricity consumers in Andheri Lokhandwala, parts of Juhu and Santacruz reporting prolonged disruption. Other affected areas included parts of Bandra, Khar, Versova, Jogeshwari, Oshiwara, Goregaon and Malad, as complaints poured in on social media seeking urgent restoration.Tata Power changeover consumers, who receive supply on Adani Electricity lines, were also impacted in parts of suburbs, sources said. A senior official from Tata Power said only a few of their consumers were impacted. An Adani Electricity official said, “Power interruption occurred due to a rare technical failure, which triggered network protection systems. Teams were on the ground immediately, and initiated restoration without any delay. Around 50% of supply was restored within 30 minutes, and about 90% within 60 minutes.”One consumer flagged a medical emergency, tweeting, “Kindly resolve at the earliest. Senior citizen on oxygen at home,” underscoring the risks posed by sudden outages to vulnerable residents. In Malad, citizens said the blackout also affected water supply in several buildings as electric pumps stopped functioning, leaving many unable to access stored water, adding to the inconvenience.Residents also expressed surprise at the scale of the disruption. “The Mumbai that saw zero power cuts has changed… the entire Lokhandwala complex and market is out,” a user posted, questioning how long and how often such outages would continue. Another post claimed, “Major power failure in #Andheri, #DNNgr, and #Versova by @Adani_Elec_Mum, but residents with @TataPower are enjoying their evening.”Congress Mumbai chief and MP Varsha Gaikwad tweeted, saying, “This is a rare occurrence in Mumbai. I hope proper investigation is undertaken to determine the cause so it doesn’t recur again. Also hope that alternate sources of power have been provided by the administration to emergency services like hospitals etc.”
