Patna: Independent MP from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, walked out of Beur Central Jail around 6pm on Friday after a special MP/MLA court in Patna granted him bail in three separate cases.
The court of additional chief judicial magistrate-I-cum-special judge (MP/MLA) directed him to appear in person whenever his cases are scheduled for hearing.Upon his release, Pappu addressed the reporters, expressing relief along with strong criticism. He said, “I had no idea that telling the truth would be so painful, requiring visits to the court and police station.”He alleged irregularities in the Khemka murder case, claiming the encounter involved the wrong juvenile and that testimony indicated the juvenile was taken out at 4am and shot. Vowing to pursue justice, he said he would approach the high court and Supreme Court. Yadav emphasised his commitment to continuing the fight for justice in the NEET student’s death case. “I will not let the NEET student’s fight stop,” he said. His vocal advocacy for justice in the case was widely linked to the political tensions surrounding his arrest.Expressing gratitude, he added, “I am indebted to everyone who supported us. There was even an attempt to kill me.”Pappu was arrested by Patna police on Feb 6 from his Mandiri residence in a 31-year-old forgery and fraud case dating back to 1995, registered at Gardanibagh police station. The arrest followed a high-voltage standoff with supporters at his home.Although the court granted him bail in that case on Feb 10, police added two more protest cases — one from 2017 and another from 2019, both registered at Kotwali police station — leading to his remand to judicial custody. Another case was registered at Kotwali and Buddha Colony police stations last week for allegedly obstructing govt work and hindering police action during his arrest. His bail hearings in the Patna civil court, which began on Feb 9, were repeatedly delayed due to bomb threats at the court premises. The threats prompted evacuations and security sweeps, prolonging the process despite intermittent hearings. The disruptions extended his stay in Beur jail till Friday’s relief in all pending cases.
