Panchkula: The MC will soon hand over the operation and maintenance (O&M) of its citywide CCTV surveillance network to an external agency for a one-year period, aiming to improve public safety and monitoring.Estimated at nearly Rs 1 crore, the project will cover round-the-clock operation, routine upkeep, repairs, and fault rectification of all existing cameras installed within MC limits. Officials said the move is intended to ensure uninterrupted surveillance, faster response to breakdowns, and better support for traffic regulation, crime prevention, and civic management. The tendering process is expected to conclude by the month-end, with work likely to begin in March. The MC had earlier installed 473 cameras at major markets, roads, and key locations, though several were found non-functional. These will be repaired under the new O&M contract. The civic body had also started installing additional cameras in markets in sectors 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 15, and across villages and community centres.“Wherever cameras have been installed, all will be brought under uniform maintenance. We will ensure none remain non-functional,” an MC official said.
