PAN Card Application, Tracking, and Correction Process
1. Apply for a PAN Card
Methods:
- Online (NSDL/UTIITSL):
- Visit NSDL PAN or UTIITSL PAN.
- Fill Form 49A (Indian citizens) or Form 49AA (foreigners/NRIs).
- Upload documents (proof of identity, address, and DOB).
- Pay fees (₹93 for Indian dispatch, ₹864 for overseas).
- Submit and note the 15-digit acknowledgment number.
- Offline:
- Visit a PAN service center (NSDL/UTIITSL) or TIN-FC.
- Submit physical Form 49A/49AA, documents, and fees.
Documents:
- Proof of Identity: Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID.
- Proof of Address: Utility bills, Bank statements.
- Proof of DOB: Birth certificate, Passport.
2. Track PAN Application Status
- Use the acknowledgment number received after application.
- Online Tracking:
- NSDL: Visit Track PAN Status → Enter acknowledgment number.
- UTIITSL: Visit UTIITSL Track PAN → Check status.
- Status updates include “Processing”, “Dispatched”, or “Rejected”.
3. Request Changes/Corrections
- Use Form 49A/49AA (tick “Changes or Correction” on the form).
- Process:
- Submit online via NSDL/UTIITSL portals or offline at centers.
- Provide supporting documents (e.g., marriage certificate for name change).
- Pay fees (same as fresh application: ₹93 for India, ₹864 overseas).
Common Updates:
- Name, address, DOB, photo, or signature.
- For critical changes (e.g., DOB), submit original/certified documents.
4. Fees & Processing Time
- Online: ₹93 (India) / ₹864 (foreign).
- Offline: ₹110 (India) / ₹1020 (foreign) (includes service charges).
- Processing: 15–20 working days after document verification.

- Double-check all details before submission.
- Use exact names as in government IDs (e.g., Aadhaar).
- For corrections, ensure documents match updated details.
- Track status regularly to resolve issues promptly.
