Palliative care centre to offer home service at Ponda

Ponda: Dilasa, a palliative care centre operated by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Ponda branch, is set to launch home care services to better assist those in need.To implement this initiative, the centre is actively seeking volunteers to help provide these services. Dr Pournima Usgaonkar, a member of the Ponda IMA, said that the introduction of home care is necessary because the centre has a limited capacity for patient admissions. The State Bank of India has contributed Rs 1.3 crore to help cover the expenses for underprivileged individuals seeking treatment at Dilasa. Dr Dattaram Desai said Dilasa operates on three levels—they can send a doctor to examine patients at home, provide ambulance services to transport patients to the OPD, or admit patients directly at the Dilasa facility. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure quality palliative care, is accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
