Lucknow: Over 5,000 property owners may face sealing or demolition of their premises after a survey found land-use violations along 24-mt-wide roads in the city.A private agency engaged by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) identified 5,103 residential properties that were allegedly used for commercial activities without proper approval.

Officials said notices will be issued within seven days. Owners will be asked to either regularise their buildings under the building bylaws 2025 or stop commercial use.“If they fail to comply, action may be taken under the UP Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973, including sealing or demolition,” said zonal officer (enforcement), Devansh Trivedi.Under the revised bylaws, limited mixed use is allowed on roads that are at least 24 mt wide, subject to payment of charges and compliance with parking and safety norms.Small clinics, professional offices and coaching centres are permitted within limits. However, banquet halls, large restaurants, bars, major retail outlets and unauthorised basement commercial use remain banned.Trivedi said the drive aims to reduce traffic congestion, parking shortages and pressure on civic infrastructure caused by unchecked commercial activity.
